Garage Transformation with Durable Epoxy Flake Flooring

  • Area: 760 sqft
  • Timeline: 3 days
  • System: Self-leveling, Epoxy Flake

For this project, we completely transformed a garage floor by removing the old metallic epoxy coating and preparing the surface for a fresh start. Our team mechanically ground the concrete, applied a self-leveling compound to correct imperfections, and lightly sanded the surface before installing a brand-new epoxy flake flooring system.

Why Epoxy Flake Flooring for Garages?

Epoxy flakes are one of the most popular choices for garage flooring because they combine durability, functionality, and design appeal. This system creates a robust, chemical-resistant, and non-slip surface, making it perfect for high-traffic areas like garages. The flake finish also helps mask dirt and imperfections, keeping the space looking clean and polished. Unlike bare concrete or tile grout lines, epoxy flake floors are seamless and simple to clean with just a mop or hose. Properly sealed with a clear polyaspartic or polyurethane topcoat, epoxy flake flooring resists fading, yellowing, and staining.

With epoxy flakes, you also get the freedom of design. You can choose from a wide variety of color blends—light and dark contrasts, calming beige tones, or bold blue mixes. This allows you to transform your garage into a beautiful, functional, and easy-to-maintain part of your home. During our first meeting, we typically help homeowners choose the right chip mix to match their vision and space.

Metallic vs. Flake Epoxy: Which Is Better for Your Garage?

Both metallic epoxy and epoxy flake flooring are high-performance systems, but they differ in style, installation, and cost.

  • Metallic Epoxy Floors
Metallic systems use special pigments to create a flowing, three-dimensional look. They resemble marble, clouds, or waves, giving your floor a luxurious, artistic finish. Metallic epoxy is more design-driven and usually comes at a higher price point because of the technique and materials involved. Itэs a great option if you want your garage to stand out as a true showcase.
  • Epoxy Flake Floors
Flake epoxy is designed with durability and practicality in mind. The multi-layered system, with vinyl flakes broadcast into the coating, creates a textured, slip-resistant surface that holds up against heavy use. Flake floors are especially well-suited for garages since they handle hot tires, dropped tools, and chemical spills while still looking sharp.

Which one is right for you?
It depends on your priorities, budget, and style preferences. If you want a decorative, showroom-style finish, metallic epoxy may be the way to go. If your focus is on strength, safety, and low maintenance, epoxy flake flooring is typically the best garage solution. Both options are durable and customizable—it’s just a matter of finding the right fit for your space.

Can You Install New Epoxy Flake Flooring Over an Old Coating?

It is technically possible to reseal your existing garage floor coating with a fresh clear topcoat to extend its appearance and protection. This option works only if the current coating is still in good condition and well-bonded to the concrete.

However, when it comes to installing a brand-new epoxy flake flooring system, we strongly recommend removing the old coating first. As professional flooring installers, we can only guarantee a strong and reliable bond when the system is applied directly to a properly prepared concrete substrate. If your old coating is already peeling, cracking, or detaching from the surface, any new system applied on top will have the same issues — meaning it won’t last as long as it should.

By grinding down to the bare concrete, we ensure correct preparation, strong adhesion, and the durability that makes epoxy flake flooring a long-term investment. This also gives you full flexibility to choose new colors, designs, and finishes for your garage floor.

At AD Technology, we’ll inspect your floor and recommend the best option — whether a reseal or a complete replacement. Call us today for a free consultation and epoxy flooring quote in Philadelphia and surrounding areas.
